S.F. Sorrow
by The Pretty Things
Considered one of rock's first narrative concept albums, 'S.F. Sorrow' is a psychedelic rock opera that chronicles the tragic life of its protagonist, Sebastian F. Sorrow, from birth through war, disillusionment, and madness. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios with producer Norman Smith, the album merges the band's R&B roots with ambitious, experimental production, utilizing sitar, Mellotron, and pioneering studio effects. The resulting work pairs Phil May's dark, literary storytelling with the band's forceful and sonically adventurous performance, creating a landmark of British psychedelia.
