(I'm) Stranded
by The Saints
Released contemporaneously with the first wave of punk, The Saints' debut album '(I'm) Stranded' is a foundational document of the genre, developed in relative isolation in Brisbane, Australia. The album is defined by its raw, aggressive energy, featuring Ed Kuepper's frenetic, "buzz-saw" guitar riffs and Chris Bailey's snarling, arrogant vocals, with the majority of the tracks recorded live in the studio over a single weekend. This rapid production, which famously included Kuepper playing through a vocal PA system for much of the recording, captured the band's primal live sound and established it as a landmark of independent, high-energy rock and roll.
