Formed as a collaborative side project between Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and members of the post-rock group Collections of Colonies of Bees. The album largely abandons traditional acoustic song structures in favor of heavily looped vocal textures, glitching electronics, and sparse, wintery guitar ambiance. It offered a fascinating, experimental detour for Vernon immediately following his massive indie-folk breakthrough.
