Formed by Alison Statton following the demise of Young Marble Giants, Weekend deliberately sought to counter the aggressive, masculine atmosphere of early 80s post-punk. They achieved this by masterfully intertwining breezy acoustic bossa nova, African soukous guitars, and intimate, conversational vocals into an enduringly sophisticated indie-pop blueprint.
