Attempting to court mainstream radio success, the legendary Los Angeles punk band enlisted heavy metal producer Michael Wagener for this highly controversial release. 'Ain't Love Grand' completely buries their rootsy, chaotic edge under slick, reverb-drenched stadium rock production and prominent synthesizers. The glossy commercial pivot alienated their core fanbase and ultimately led to the departure of founding guitarist Billy Zoom shortly after the ensuing tour.
