Ahmed

Ahmed is a multinational jazz quartet featuring *Pat Thomas* (piano), *Seymour Wright* (alto saxophone), *Joel Grip* (double bass), and *Antonin Gerbal* (drums). The group was formed to exclusively explore, deconstruct, and reimagine the compositions of the pioneering bassist and oudist *Ahmed Abdul-Malik*. Their sound is characterized by intense, hypnotic repetition and a heavy, propulsive rhythmic drive that pushes the boundaries of free jazz. With releases like 'New Jazz Imagination' and 'Super Majnoon (Crazy Perfect)', the band has been hailed for its physically and intellectually engaging approach, transforming historical material into a visceral, contemporary musical experience.
