Alice Coltrane

Alice Coltrane was a visionary American jazz pianist, organist, harpist, and composer. After the death of her husband, saxophonist *John Coltrane*, she became a central figure in the spiritual jazz movement. Her pioneering work on the harp, a rare instrument in jazz, created a unique, celestial sound. On seminal albums for #Impulse!# like 'A Monastic Trio' and 'Journey in Satchidananda', she fused modal jazz, blues, and Eastern spirituality. Later in life, as a spiritual leader named Turiya, she founded an ashram and recorded devotional music, leaving a profound legacy that continues to influence a diverse range of musicians.
