Belchior

Antonio Carlos Belchior (1946–2017), known simply as Belchior, was a visionary Brazilian singer-songwriter and central figure in Música Popular Brasileira (MPB). Hailing from Ceará, he rose to prominence in the 1970s within the "Pessoal do Ceará" collective. Belchior’s masterpiece, the 1976 album Alucinação, redefined Brazilian music with sharp, deeply philosophical lyrics that captured the existential anxieties of a generation under military rule. Iconic tracks like "Como Nossos Pais" and "Apenas um Rapaz Latino-Americano" cemented his status as a brilliant urban poet, while his late-life disappearance from public view only enhanced his mythic counterculture legacy.
