Blind Gary Davis

Reverend Gary Davis was a commanding blues and gospel musician celebrated for his virtuosic and highly influential fingerpicking guitar style. Born in South Carolina and blind from infancy, Davis developed a complex, multi-voiced technique using only his thumb and index finger, creating a sound that could evoke a full band. After being ordained as a Baptist minister, his music primarily focused on spiritual themes. He became a key figure in the American folk music revival of the 1950s and 60s, mentoring students like *Stefan Grossman* and *Jorma Kaukonen* and influencing countless artists, including *Bob Dylan* and the *Grateful Dead*, with seminal recordings like 'Harlem Street Singer'.
