Bob Marley & The Wailers

Originating as the vocal trio The Wailers in 1963, the group evolved from a premier Jamaican ska act into the world-renowned reggae band Bob Marley & The Wailers. [1, 2, 5] The 1974 departure of founders Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer prompted a restructuring, with Marley fronting a new lineup that included the I-Threes vocal trio and the formidable rhythm section of brothers Aston and Carlton Barrett. [1, 7, 10] This iteration merged reggae with rock and blues influences, defined by socially conscious lyrics and a distinctive one-drop rhythm. [14, 17] The group's work with Island Records globalized reggae, establishing a musical and cultural template that continues to signify Jamaican identity. [6, 14]
