Chris Squire

Christopher Russell Edward Squire was the co-founding bassist and a principal songwriter for the progressive rock band Yes. [1, 8] His early choral training profoundly shaped his approach to vocal harmonies, a signature of the band's sound. [2, 12] Squire's innovative technique redefined the bass guitar's role, employing a melodic, trebly Rickenbacker tone that often functioned as a lead instrument. [1, 4] This aggressive and contoured style elevated the rhythm section's prominence and became a cornerstone of the progressive rock genre. [1, 16] As the only member to perform on every Yes studio album until his passing, his presence was a constant, anchoring force through the band's many evolutions. [1, 13]
