David Jackson

A British saxophonist, flautist, and composer, David Jackson is noted for his tenure with the progressive rock group Van der Graaf Generator. [2, 5] His style defined the band's sonic framework through a pioneering application of electronic effects and the use of double horns, playing two saxophones simultaneously. [1, 2, 6] This technique, inspired by Rahsaan Roland Kirk, allowed him to generate aggressive, layered textures that expanded the saxophone's role in a rock context. [2, 8] Jackson’s experimental approach and unique tonal vocabulary have secured his influence on avant-garde and progressive musicians who followed.
