Eddie Henderson

An American trumpeter and flugelhornist, Eddie Henderson gained prominence as a member of Herbie Hancock's experimental Mwandishi sextet from 1970 to 1973. [1, 6, 7] His solo work beginning in this period fused the atmospheric electronics of the Mwandishi era with funk-oriented rhythms, establishing a distinctive voice in jazz-fusion. [10] Also a licensed physician and psychiatrist, Henderson’s unique dual career informed his intellectually deep yet lyrical playing style. [1, 9] After a period exploring commercial fusion, he returned to acoustic, post-bop settings in the 1990s, cementing his legacy as a versatile artist who bridged jazz's electric and acoustic traditions.
