Fairport Convention

Formed in 1967, Fairport Convention is an English group central to the British folk rock movement. Initially modeling their sound on American folk rock, the band soon developed a distinctly English identity by merging traditional British folk songs with a rock framework. [1, 5] This fusion was defined on their 1969 album *Liege & Lief*, which established a template for the genre with its use of electric instrumentation, a rock rhythm section, and traditional material. [13, 3] Despite numerous lineup changes, the band's work has consistently explored narrative-driven songs, profoundly influencing the wider appreciation of traditional music in England and leaving a lasting blueprint for folk rock.
