Fishmans

Fishmans

Formed in Tokyo in 1987, Fishmans initiated a sound rooted in reggae and dub, defined by the steady rhythm section of drummer Kin-ichi Motegi and bassist Yuzuru Kashiwabara. The group's style evolved significantly, merging elements of dream pop, psychedelia, and the eclectic Shibuya-kei scene into increasingly expansive and atmospheric studio productions. This trajectory culminated in their late-career work, including the celebrated live album "98.12.28 Otokotachi no Wakare." The band's initial run concluded after the sudden death of frontman Shinji Sato in 1999, but their reputation has grown substantially, securing a lasting international cult following. [1, 2, 8, 13]
