Fred Frith

Fred Frith

An English multi-instrumentalist, composer, and improviser, Fred Frith first gained attention as a co-founder of the avant-rock group Henry Cow. His work consistently merges rock, folk, and free improvisation, defined by a pioneering use of prepared guitars and extended techniques, first documented on his landmark 1974 album *Guitar Solos*. [3, 15] As a central figure in the Rock in Opposition movement, he challenged commercial music conventions through a series of influential bands like Art Bears, Massacre, and Skeleton Crew. [1, 5] Frith's expansive career as a collaborator and composer for film and dance solidifies his position as a primary architect of experimental guitar music. [3, 9]
