Geezer Butler

Terence "Geezer" Butler is an English musician and songwriter, recognized as the founding bassist and primary lyricist for the pioneering heavy metal band Black Sabbath. [1] His lyrics moved beyond blues and rock conventions, exploring themes of social commentary, war, and the occult, which became foundational to the genre. [5, 9] Butler's bass style defined the instrument's role in heavy metal, marked by downtuned strings to match Tony Iommi's guitar, the innovative use of a wah-wah pedal, and a melodic weight that provided a powerful counterpoint. [4, 15] This distinctive combination of lyrical depth and rhythmic innovation established a blueprint for countless bassists and shaped the sonic architecture of metal. [1, 12]
