Genesis

Genesis

Formed at Charterhouse School in 1967, Genesis initially pioneered progressive rock with a theatrical style defined by complex compositions and narrative lyrics under frontman Peter Gabriel. [1] Their sound was marked by elaborate keyboard passages, intricate guitar work, and dynamic song structures. Following Gabriel's 1975 departure, the band transitioned with drummer Phil Collins assuming lead vocal duties, steering their music towards a more accessible pop-rock and soft-rock direction. [2, 3] This later incarnation achieved massive global commercial success, cementing Genesis's dual legacy as a foundational influence on progressive rock and as creators of enduring pop hits. [4]
