George Murray

George Murray

An American bassist, George Murray is principally recognized for his foundational role within David Bowie's rhythm section from 1975 to 1980. As part of the D.A.M. Trio, alongside drummer Dennis Davis and guitarist Carlos Alomar, Murray's funk-inflected and melodic basslines helped define the sound of a pivotal era. [1, 9] This period included the albums *Station to Station*, the "Berlin Trilogy" (*Low*, *"Heroes"*, *Lodger*), and *Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps)*. [9] His work provided a propulsive yet fluid anchor that bridged Bowie's shifts from soul to experimental rock. Murray also contributed to Iggy Pop's 1977 album *The Idiot*, further cementing his influence before retiring from music in the early 1980s. [12, 11]
