Jimmy Johnson

Jimmy Johnson was an American guitarist, producer, and engineer recognized as a foundational architect of the Muscle Shoals sound. [4, 6] As a core member of the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section, also known as The Swampers, he supplied the distinct rhythmic framework for countless recordings in the 1960s and 70s. [2, 4] His guitar work was defined by a restrained and disciplined groove, merging R&B, soul, and funk to shape hits for artists like Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Paul Simon. [4, 6, 12] Co-founding Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in 1969, Johnson helped create an institution that defined a pivotal era of American popular music. [5, 8]
