Kino

Kino

Kino was a seminal Soviet rock band that became one of the most popular and influential music groups in Russian history. Formed in Leningrad in 1981, the band was centered around the charismatic frontman and songwriter Viktor Tsoi. Their early sound was a romantic, melodic post-punk, as heard on their debut '45', recorded with help from *Boris Grebenshchikov* of *Aquarium*. By the late 1980s, their music evolved into a more heroic and anthemic style, defined by minimalist instrumentation and Tsoi's fatalistic lyrics. Albums like 'Gruppa Krovi' and 'Zvezda po imeni Solntse' captured the zeitgeist of Perestroika, cementing Kino's status as icons for a generation demanding change.
