Lucy Liyou

Lucy Liyou is a Korean-American experimental musician and composer based in Philadelphia. Known for a unique style that synthesizes field recordings, text-to-speech narration, poetry, and elements of Korean folk opera (Pansori), Liyou's work explores themes of family, identity, trauma, and the complexities of the Asian-American experience. Liyou, who began playing classical piano at a young age, blends lush piano arrangements with fractured electronics and manipulated vocals. Their debut album, 'Welfare', released in 2020 on #ijn inc.#, was a deeply personal analysis of self-care, followed by the sister LP 'Practice'. Subsequent releases like 'Dog Dreams (개꿈)' have seen Liyou's sound evolve, incorporating their own singing voice more prominently.
