Michael Giles

Michael Giles is an English drummer recognized as a co-founder of the progressive rock band King Crimson. His work is distinguished by a complex, jazz-inflected style, weaving polyrhythmic structures and subtle tempo changes that were foundational to the band's compositional direction. After departing King Crimson following its debut, he recorded the album 'McDonald and Giles' and pursued extensive work as a session musician throughout the 1970s. Giles's innovative and flowing technique on the first King Crimson album defined a new, musically intricate approach to rock drumming, influencing the genre's subsequent development.
