Parliament

An American funk band conceived by bandleader George Clinton, Parliament evolved from a 1950s doo-wop group, The Parliaments, into a principal act of the P-Funk collective. [4, 10] Functioning as a counterpoint to the psychedelic rock of its sister act Funkadelic, Parliament developed a more commercially polished sound built on elaborate horn arrangements, synthesizer-heavy textures, and collective vocals. [4] Their 1970s work yielded a series of influential concept albums, such as *Mothership Connection*, that constructed a detailed Afrofuturist mythology. [4] This fusion of science fiction themes with deep funk grooves defined a singular space in popular music, shaping funk, R&B, and hip-hop for decades. [1, 2]
