Phil Manzanera

Born in London to an English father and Colombian mother, guitarist and producer Phil Manzanera joined Roxy Music in 1972, where his innovative guitar work became a core component of the bandโs influential art-rock sound. [1, 2, 3] He largely eschewed blues-based conventions, instead treating the guitar as a source for textural and atmospheric sound, manipulated through processing and effects. [1] His solo career, beginning with the 1975 album *Diamond Head*, and his extensive production work have seen him explore a wide range of styles, often drawing on his Latin American upbringing. [1, 4, 15] Manzanera's unconventional approach to the instrument shaped the sonic vocabulary for subsequent generations of post-punk and alternative guitarists. [19]
