Reggie Lucas

An American guitarist, songwriter, and producer, Reggie Lucas began his career as a formidable funk-jazz guitarist in Miles Davis's electric band from 1972 to 1976. [1, 7] This period forged his musical partnership with percussionist James Mtume, with whom he transitioned into a celebrated songwriting and production team. [7, 15] They defined a sophisticated R&B sound with hits for Stephanie Mills and Roberta Flack. [15, 22] Venturing into solo production, Lucas shaped the formative post-disco sound of the early 1980s, most notably by producing the majority of Madonna's 1983 debut album and writing her first top-ten hit, "Borderline".
