Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson emerged in the late 1960s as a principal songwriter and lead guitarist for Fairport Convention, a group he co-founded. [1] In that capacity, he was an architect of British folk-rock, shaping a new genre that electrified traditional music. [8] His subsequent solo work, including a significant period with then-wife Linda Thompson, is defined by dark, narrative-driven songwriting and a singular guitar style. [1, 7] This technique merges Celtic and British folk modalities with rock dynamics, utilizing a hybrid pick-and-fingers method that allows for complex, multi-layered arrangements. [1, 7] His influential body of work is noted for its lyrical depth and technical innovation. [6, 8]
