Biography
Formed in Reading, England, in 1989, Slowdive became a primary architect of the shoegaze genre. The group's sound was defined by the confluence of Neil Halstead's and Rachel Goswell's ethereal, submerged vocals with expansive, heavily processed guitar textures. Their initial period established a template for dream pop with foundational albums like "Souvlaki," merging delicate melodies with immense, atmospheric soundscapes. After disbanding in 1995 and its members pursuing other projects, the band reformed in 2014. Their subsequent work has affirmed their lasting influence, continuing to shape the vocabulary of alternative and ambient music for a new generation of artists.
