The Byrds

Formed in Los Angeles in 1964, The Byrds were an American band that pioneered the genre of folk rock. [6, 7] Their sound, defined by Roger McGuinn's chiming 12-string Rickenbacker guitar and intricate vocal harmonies, merged the lyrical depth of Bob Dylan with the rhythmic energy of the British Invasion. [5, 7, 18] The group's trajectory moved from folk rock to experiments in psychedelia and raga rock before they became foundational architects of country rock with the 1968 album *Sweetheart of the Rodeo*. [6, 7] Through numerous lineup changes, The Byrds' constant musical evolution left a distinct and lasting imprint on rock music. [17]
