William Onyeabor

William Onyeabor was a Nigerian funk musician and businessman who became a cult figure for his unique brand of synthesizer-driven Afro-funk. Between 1977 and 1985, he self-released nine albums on his own #Wilfilms Records# label, including 'Atomic Bomb' and 'Body & Soul', creating a sound far ahead of its time. After becoming a born-again Christian, he disavowed his musical past and refused to speak about it, deepening his enigmatic status. His work was later rediscovered and celebrated globally through the #Luaka Bop# compilation 'Who is William Onyeabor?', championed by artists like *David Byrne* and *Damon Albarn*.
