Sadly, the Future Is No Longer What It Was
by Leyland Kirby
An immensely sprawling, incredibly bleak triple-album opus from the producer best known for his work under The Caretaker moniker. Eschewing his usual crackling ballroom loops in favor of elongated, profoundly melancholic synthesizer drones and somber piano chords, the collection confronts themes of societal decline and the death of post-war utopian optimism. It is a masterpiece of deeply depressive, modern ambient composition.
