Walkin'

by Miles Davis All Stars

Walkin' cover art

Assembling sessions recorded in early 1954, 'Walkin'' is widely celebrated as the definitive catalyst that birthed the hard bop movement. Davis deliberately moved away from the softer aesthetics of his 'Birth of the Cool' era, leading two distinct rhythm sections through extended, blues-drenched improvisations. The title track in particular established a grittier, soul-inflected approach to jazz that dominated the remainder of the decade.
