Often cited as the greatest jazz concert ever recorded, this historic live album captures an unprecedented summit of bebop pioneers: Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. Recorded in Toronto amidst considerable interpersonal tension and a sparse audience, the performance is nonetheless characterized by fiercely competitive and virtuosic improvisation. Due to contractual reasons, Parker was originally credited simply as 'Charlie Chan' on the initial releases.
