Country rock emerged in the late 1960s as a formal fusion of rock's amplified energy with the narrative traditions and instrumental textures of country music. Pioneered by rock musicians exploring roots-oriented sounds, the genre is defined by its synthesis of electric and acoustic instrumentation, often featuring pedal steel guitar alongside prominent rock drum beats and electric bass.
