Garage Rock

Garage Rock

Originating in the mid-1960s as an unrefined American response to the British Invasion, garage rock is defined by its raw sonic texture. This sound was achieved through heavily distorted guitars, often processed with fuzz effects, simple amplification, and rudimentary recording techniques. The core instrumentation featured electric guitars, bass, and drums, frequently augmented by combo organs. Its ethos championed an amateur, do-it-yourself spirit, prioritizing primal energy over polished musicianship. While few of its original practitioners, like *The Kingsmen* or *The Sonics*, achieved sustained success, the genre's form directly shaped the development of protopunk and subsequent rock movements.
