Emerging from the theoretical groundwork of Italian Futurism and Luigi Russolo's manifesto "The Art of Noises," noise as a genre formalizes the use of non-musical sound as its core compositional material. It deliberately eschews traditional melody, harmony, and rhythm, prioritizing texture, dynamics, and the physical sensation of sound. Practitioners often employ feedback loops, extreme distortion, and custom-built electronics to create dense, immersive, or abrasive sonic fields.
