Nu-disco is an electronic music genre that emerged in the late 1990s and early 2000s, channeling the aesthetics of late 1970s American disco, 1980s Italo disco, and boogie. It merges the lush, live instrumentation of its predecessors—prominent funk basslines, Nile Rodgers-esque guitar riffs, and string sections—with modern production techniques like four-on-the-floor drum machines, side-chain compression, and arpeggiated synthesizers. The ethos revolves around a warm, melodic, and often celebratory feel, moving away from the harder edges of house and techno.
