Emerging from the American heavy and speed metal scenes of the mid-1980s, US Power Metal (USPM) distinguishes itself from its European counterpart through a more aggressive and rhythmically complex approach. The style is defined by razor-sharp, often palm-muted guitar riffs, soaring and dramatic vocal performances, and a percussive drive that frequently verges on thrash metal. Bands like *Savatage* and *Jag Panzer* laid the groundwork with albums such as "Hall of the Mountain King" and "Ample Destruction". While never achieving the widespread commercial success of thrash or glam metal, USPM cultivated a dedicated following and continues to influence modern heavy metal acts.
