The form originated with foundational acts like *Blasphemy* and *Beherit*, who established a sonic template of total chaos. It is defined by a deliberately raw, underproduced sound featuring down-tuned, churning guitar riffs, relentless blast-beat drumming, and guttural, inhuman vocals. The genre’s ethos rejects musical complexity in favor of pure, violent extremity, creating an overwhelming and claustrophobic auditory assault. Its influence persists in the underground, intentionally eschewing commercial appeal for uncompromised sonic warfare.
