Zeuhl

Originating in early 1970s France with the band Magma, Zeuhl is a style of progressive rock defined by its immense, operatic, and often apocalyptic scope. The genre merges the improvisational elements of jazz fusion with the structural complexity of modern classical music and the amplified force of rock. Sonically, it is characterized by powerful, hypnotic bass lines, martial rhythms, choral vocals often sung in a constructed language (Kobaïan), and a brass section that adds to its orchestral weight. While never achieving mainstream commercial success, Zeuhl cultivated a dedicated international following and its influence persists within avant-garde and progressive music circles.
