Lyrics for This Morning I Am Born Again

This morning I am born again, and light shines through the land I'd give myself, my heart, my soul, to lend a friend a hand And every deathly humming dove I love and understand And there is only emptiness against me Where once the dust I suffered from would find me in my sleep It pushed me and it pulled me, and it promised many things I moved too fast, I throttled back, ashamed at my relief I feared the gentleness of my ambition This morning I am light, untying unwritten belief I ride the rising horselight as it drives across the creek And breezes lap the bracken back and slip between my teeth And all around is evidence of plenty I've seen pasture after pasture and their fragments in the air I've seen bodies flown and bodies thrown and bodies shown such care I've gathered up my own, and there were still so many there Asking who is making up these questions This morning I am born, and I am for the forms we are In our great eternal moment in the thrall of our own star In our bordered and our neighbored and our tortured little yards Fighting all this emptiness against us So we hip the sumac, lip the dew sap, rip the rabbit lines So we dash the sun-drenched tacked and tongueless "No Trespassing" signs Like raspberries and leaves and steam, we reach into our skies And there is only emptiness against us
