Lyrics for Just For One Moment
I met a friend at a bar last night And a song came on I hadn't heard in a long time A song I knew by heart, a song so fine A classic in its own right Turned to my friend and said, "I love this tune" He laughed and said, "Of course you do" Then I realized the song was mine The Swedish spring was dressed in yellow Lemon butterflies and tussilago And people moved to the song They hugged their friends and sang along The bartender cranked up the stereo Sometimes I feel an envy for them The curse of a songwriter is to never get to experience The experience, what the listener can sense To never be on that other side of the fence But for a couple seconds in that bar I was I heard it all, it was glorious And humbly I thought, "Who knew I was a freakin' genius?" And the curse for a human is to never know how another person feels For them deep down below If you ever truly reached their soul I hadn't seen you in a while But then some photos flickered by Your haircut and your jacket were new In those photos you looked happy as if nothing had transpired I wondered if I'd left something in you? If just for one moment, I reached in If you'd felt what I had felt, somewhere within If just for one moment, it was love Or if that question is answer enough? An offer came in It'd been a while since I'd played any wedding but this one felt different These two women, something about them Set them apart Their story touched a distant place in my heart I sat down by the piano to write for them And lost myself for hours in Melodies and chords that felt like They had been sent to me from heaven I thought of us, how we'd gone wrong I thought of how the point of a song Is not the note you end it on But to sing and dance while it goes on If just for one moment, I reached in If you'd felt what I had felt, somewhere within If just for one moment, you felt the same Then wasn't it worth the tears, worth the pain? I ran through what I'd written Scribbled down the chords and lyrics on a napkin Hailed a cab and arrived just in time to begin Turned to the couple and started to sing
