On 'Ashes Against the Grain', Agalloch consciously pivoted from the prominent neofolk and post-rock textures of their previous work, embracing a heavier, more direct sound centered on layered electric guitars. [1, 2, 3] This intended shift to capture a live-band energy was ironically met with a difficult recording process that resulted in a highly polished and clean production.
