Self-produced by the Japanese pop idol, 'Fushigi' is a radical, highly experimental departure from mainstream kayōkyoku conventions. Akina Nakamori deliberately buried her vocals deep within incredibly dense, reverb-drenched synthesizer arrangements to create a profoundly mysterious, ethereal wave atmosphere. The record remains a surreal, nocturnal, and lush masterpiece of 80s avant-garde pop.
