Album Notes & Community Reviews
On their debut 'Boys & Girls', Alabama Shakes fuse blues, Southern soul, and rootsy rock 'n' roll, creating a sound both raw and reverent to its influences. The production is direct and unprocessed, serving to highlight the gale-force, emotionally charged vocals of frontwoman Brittany Howard. This combination of impassioned performance and stripped-down songwriting resulted in a commercially successful and critically acclaimed album that signaled the arrival of a significant new voice in rock.
