Album Notes & Community Reviews

Radically shifting gears from his established rock stylings, the revered French songwriter plunged into dark, icy minimalism on the deeply atmospheric 'Novice'. Collaborating heavily with lyricist Boris Bergman, Bashung explores anxious, poetic themes over sparse drum machines, coldwave synthesizers, and jagged guitar lines. The album's uncompromising, brooding aesthetic marked a significant, critically acclaimed turning point in his legendary career.
