Album Notes & Community Reviews

In stark contrast to the polished power pop of Big Star, this notoriously chaotic solo effort found the frontman intentionally deconstructing rock and roll standards. Produced amidst heavy substance abuse in Memphis, the shambolic, distorted recordings capture a sense of unhinged, spontaneous collapse. It polarizes listeners but undeniably pioneered the wildly out-of-tune, lo-fi aesthetic that influenced later indie and punk-blues movements.
