Album Notes & Community Reviews
North's music for Elia Kazan's film of Tennessee Williams's play was the first film score to use jazz as dramatic underscore, and the recording, conducted by Ray Heindorf, sold strongly enough to be reissued paired with music by Max Steiner. The score earned North an Academy Award nomination, and the original soundtrack recording was later inducted into the National Recording Registry.
