Album Notes & Community Reviews

The German saxophonist and conceptual artist leads a stellar avant-garde quintet, featuring Maggie Nicols on vocals and Paul Bley on piano. 'This Earth!' weaves complex, structured free jazz with intense vocal improvisations and stark, dramatic textures. The ECM-produced album is widely celebrated as a profound, intellectual pinnacle of the 1980s European free music movement.
