Album Notes & Community Reviews

'Velvet Darkness' serves as the unofficial debut solo album for the legendary guitarist, recorded quickly during a break in sessions with Tony Williams' Lifetime. Despite Holdsworth's later disavowal of the record due to it being released without his permission from rough rehearsal tapes, it showcases his rapidly developing, highly fluid legato style. It remains a fascinating raw document of his early fusion explorations.
